Kongsberg Maritime recommends that the installation IT network (Ship network) and internet connection have secure network segregation.
Description and background
As vessels are increasingly more connected with high-speed internet, there is an elevated risk of cyber security threats.
Kongsberg Maritime systems are protected by several barriers and expectations to external environments depending on the security capabilities in the given product versions.
Recommendation
Kongsberg Maritime recommends validating the effectiveness of existing cybersecurity controls and considering appropriate security updates and technology upgrades to further improve the security posture and reduce exposure to cyber threats.
If suspicious activity is detected, or there is reason to believe the security of the installation IT network may be compromised, Kongsberg Maritime recommends physically disconnecting the IT network from Kongsberg Maritime systems installed, as a precautionary measure. This will physically segregate the IT network from Kongsberg Maritime systems.
Disconnecting the IT network could cause loss of digital services depending on vessel specific configuration, e.g.:
- Data to external data connectors
- Remote support capability
- External viewer services
- Cloud connected solutions
