Conning & Central Alarm Management (CAM)
Online e-learning course for Deck Officers
K-Bridge software version 9 · 5 chapters · 80 min · Language: English
Heading. Rate of turn. Depth. Thrusters. Traffic. And an alarm going off somewhere.
Situational awareness is one of the most critical things a navigator maintains on watch, and one of the most fragile. Conning and CAM are built to protect it. Conning puts the vessel’s behaviour on one screen you can read at a glance. CAM brings every alert on the bridge into one structured, prioritised list. This course teaches you to use both with confidence, especially when the workload is at its highest.
Take it on its own, or as one of six courses in the complete K-Bridge INS training series.
Chapter 1 – Two tools, one goal
A quick orientation to what Conning and CAM do, and what they don’t. You’ll see how one gathers the data you need on a single screen and the other gathers every alert on the bridge into one place, and how together they support a safer watch.
Chapter 2 – Reading the Conning display
We go through the display pane by pane, from the ship symbol and rate of turn to route monitoring, depth trends and sideways movement at bow and stern. Learn the simple colour logic, and you can tell in one glance whether everything is as it should be.
Chapter 3 – Conning on watch
The ECDIS tells you where the ship should go. Conning tells you whether it’s actually going there, right now. Learn to anticipate turns, catch problems before an alarm goes off, and stay ahead of the ship during docking and close-quarters work.
Chapter 4 – Understanding alerts
Every alert on the bridge follows the same IMO framework: a priority that tells you how urgent it is, a state that tells you what has happened to it so far, and a category that tells you how to handle it. Once you know these three, you can read any alert with confidence, on any vessel.
Chapter 5 – Operating CAM
Learn to acknowledge and silence alerts the right way, keep a busy alert list under control, and know which alerts must be handled at their source. We also cover what happens if CAM is lost, and how to use the alert history to review your watch.
Diploma
When you successfully complete this course, you’ll receive a K-Bridge Conning and CAM diploma.
