The introduction of the Azipull 70 brings the advantages of Azipull propulsion technology to a wider range of vessel types. Traditionally associated with offshore, ferry and specialist vessel applications, the Azipull range offers high efficiency, enhanced manoeuvrability and operational performance.
As the yacht market increasingly seeks electric propulsion solutions that combine performance, comfort and compact installation requirements, Kongsberg Maritime has identified an opportunity for a smaller Azipull variant. The new Azipull 70 has been engineered to address the specific needs of yacht builders while retaining the efficiency and handling characteristics that have defined the Azipull range for over 20 years.
The design features a compact inboard arrangement, enabling easier integration within space-constrained yacht hulls. Combined with advanced hydrodynamic performance, the solution supports reduced noise and vibration levels while enhancing onboard comfort for owners and guests.
“Over the last few years, we have seen growing interest in Azipull technology from the yacht sector, particularly among leading yards in Europe,” says Anton Westerlund, Vice President Product Management, Thruster Systems, Kongsberg Maritime. “The introduction of the Azipull 70 is a direct response to that demand. It is the smallest Azipull we have ever developed, specifically designed to bring the manoeuvrability, efficiency and hydrodynamic advantages to a new generation of yachts and yacht support vessels.”
It will be available in both L-drive and Z-drive configurations, so the thruster can be integrated with diesel-electric, hybrid or conventional mechanical drive arrangements.
To simplify integration into different vessel designs, the unit is offered with multiple hull mounting alternatives, including both welded and bolted configurations, and can be specified with fixed pitch, controllable pitch or full-feathering propellers.
The company has worked closely with yacht builders throughout the development process to ensure the new solution addresses key industry priorities, including vessel efficiency, operational flexibility and installation constraints.
