An exciting opportunity has arisen as Technical Support Engineer. In this role, you will be a part of the Global Customer Support team in Kongsberg Maritime México office. The Technical Support Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for propulsion products, resolving technical issues, and delivering recommendations to internal and external customers worldwide in accordance with Global Technical Support processes.

The Technical Support Engineer role focuses on providing product related technical assistance as an integral part of the Product Centre’s Global Technical Support organization and according to relevant processes. It focuses on troubleshooting, resolving technical issues and providing technical recommendations to internal and external customers globally. Building good cooperation with customers, and other stakeholders, is key for this role and you will need to be collaborative and have excellent communication skills to succeed.

You will be joining an experienced team and be a strong contributor to maximize our customer satisfaction and sales potential.

Key accountabilities

• Sort, respond or escalate emails in shared mailboxes adhering to relevant processes.
• Perform due diligence, including Export Control Screening.
• Gather information and documentation necessary for handling a request before escalating.
• Create cases from queue items providing all necessary information.
• Respond to technical inquiries from internal and external customers using applicable systems and adhering to relevant processes.
• Prepare documentation packages for planned service jobs.
• Provide checklists and documentation on existing approved repair procedures.
• Perform basic troubleshooting according to existing checklists.
• Assist in spare parts identification and checking spares availability.
• Provide input to Maintenance Binders based on available upgrades, service and spare parts orders history, escalate more complex cases as needed.
• Handle requests for approval of oils outside recommended oils list.
• Handle oil analysis requests, forward results, and escalate technical questions if necessary.
• Prepare EAL infeasibility statements.
• Participate in on-the-job training.
• Provide remote and on-site technical support if needed.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve technical issues of specific installations.
• Identify and escalate recuring and larger fleet issues.
• Provide input and feedback to maintenance plans and procedures.
• Provide technical advice and support for planned commissioning, service, upgrade and repair and overhaul jobs, including recommendations based on past service records, available upgrades and other opportunities.
• Act as a local point of contact for complex cases, support root cause and warranty investigations, and plan corrective actions.
• Participate in the development of various technical documents, instructions, checklists, test plans, reports and training materials adhering to relevant processes.
• Participate in sharing and systematizing knowledge ensuring a consistent approach to solving similar technical problems.
• Provide advice and technical guidance to Field Service Engineers upon request, ensure that relevant Alerts & Notifications and product upgrades are properly understood.
• Deliver system familiarization, basic and intermediate maintenance training for internal and external customers, including onboard training if needed.
• Participate in customer meetings related to solving technical issues.
• Assist Aftermarket Sales team by providing technical advice and participating in customer meetings if needed.
• Report quality and safety issues through Synergi Life.

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field is preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
• Proficiency in reading, understanding and interpreting technical documentation, including drawings, diagrams, and instructions.
• Solid understanding of the relevant products.
• High analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely.
• Willingness and ability to travel locally and internationally from time to time.
• Fluent spoken and written English, including technical terminology. Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is considered as an advantage.
• A collaborative team player with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset.
• Ability to build strong technical relationships with key customers.
• Experience in using PLM, CRM and ERP systems is considered as an advantage.
• Previous experience in field service or customer support roles is considered an advantage.
• Evidence of having a strong understanding of commercial / contracting principles and preparing, formulating, and handling the bidding process.
