Sales Manager – Naval
An incredible opportunity awaits you as Sales Manager - Naval! The objective of the Sales Manager – Naval position is to grow the Kongsberg Maritime market share in the US Naval sector with Kongsberg Maritime’s products, systems and solutions. The Sales Manager – Naval will build relations with customers, partners & suppliers with a focus on what Kongsberg Maritime needs to do to increase order intake in the short, medium & long term.
Responsibilities
Strategic Account & Sales Management
- Own and manage assigned US naval customer accounts end to end, including revenue growth, customer satisfaction, and escalation management
- Lead long-term, complex sales cycles involving senior customers and internal stakeholders
- Represent a unified “one company” approach toward customers
Customer Relationship Management
- Act as the primary customer interface and escalation point
- Build and maintain trusted relationships at both operational and senior leadership levels
- Manage sensitive customer situations while balancing commercial, contractual, and operational commitments
Aftermarket & Lifecycle Business Development
- Identify and develop aftermarket and lifecycle sales opportunities aligned with customer fleet status and operational needs
- Drive opportunities related to maintenance, upgrades, retrofits, refits, conversions, and modernization programs
Commercial & Proposal Leadership
- Coordinate and contribute to the development of commercial proposals for complex technical solutions
- Translate customer operational requirements into commercially viable offerings
- Support pricing strategies, contract negotiations, and risk evaluations
Marketing & Growth Initiatives
- Drive customer-specific marketing and business development activities, including campaigns, service communications, and system upgrades
- Proactively identify growth opportunities within the assigned customer base
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Governance
- Coordinate closely with product sales, engineering, service, and support teams
- Ensure alignment with internal sales processes, governance models (e.g., Align Process), and reporting requirement
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, or a related field
Professional Experience
- 8–12 years of relevant sales experience, preferably in naval, defense, maritime, or complex technical systems
- Proven experience working with naval or government customers (e.g., US Navy, US Coast Guard, defense authorities)
- Demonstrated success managing long-term, complex sales cycles and strategic key accounts
- Experience securing and managing long-term service agreements and support contracts
- Solid experience in aftermarket sales, including maintenance planning, spares, technical support, upgrades, and lifecycle solutions
- Experience in structured, high‑accountability environments is valued
Industry & Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of naval fleet operations, vessel lifecycle management, maintenance concepts, and modernization programs
- Familiarity with defense procurement processes, customer classifications, and compliance requirements relevant to naval programs
- Experience preparing or supporting commercial proposals for complex technical and operational solutions (including CAT 1 and CAT 2 projects)
Organizational & International Exposure
- Proven experience working in a matrix organization across sales, engineering, service, and support functions
- Experience working with multinational teams and international customers
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently, both domestically and internationally
Professional Skills & Mindset
- Strong commercial acumen, including pricing, contract terms, risk assessment, and value-based selling
- High level of discipline in CRM usage, forecasting, budgeting, and KPI reporting
- Results-oriented mindset with experience contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
