Kongsberg Maritime Ltd has designed and supplied fleet-fit submarine based underwater television systems specifically for safe underwater navigation and vehicle deployment applications. The installed position of the video sensors additionally allows for tactical and information gathering operations.
The navigation system comprises two fin-mounted video cameras; one upward looking and the other forward looking (angled at 40º to the horizontal). The location of the cameras in the fin, offers the best quality of tactical information for surfacing or forward manoeuvres. These cameras supply video signals to an inboard Control Unit. The Control Unit provides power to the video cameras, a video text overlay facility and video switching to two Video Display Monitors and a Video Cassette Recorder. This Kongsberg Maritime submarine television system has recently gained Royal Navy fleet weapons acceptance.
