The Kongsberg Maritime Systems & Projects Group has been awarded multiple contracts from BAE Systems, Earl Industries and General Dynamics, NASSCO to supply a Low Light Surveillance System as part of the US Navy's Maintenance/Upgrade Program for LHA/LHD and LSD Class ships. NAVAIR Lakehurst will be the In-Service Engineering Activity overseeing the procurement of the hardware and providing logistical support to the fleet.
14 shipsets have been contracted in all - 6 LHA/LHD and 8 LSD - with a total order value to KML of approximately £2.7 million. Delivery is scheduled from September 2007 through to March 2008.
The Low Light Surveillance System is a multi-drop camera system with telemetry control via RS-485 serial protocol and will include an external Low Light PTZ camera similar to that used in Kongsberg's Helicopter Operations Surveillance System (HOSS). The camera is fully qualified and US Navy approved providing real-time CCTV display of critical helicopter operations even in low light conditions. There are currently over 100 HOSS systems in service with the US Navy.
Other elements of the Low Light Surveillance System include: External Low Light Fixed Cameras, External Low Light TRZ Cameras, Internal Fixed Cameras and Internal PTZ Cameras along with Control & Viewing Stations and a Master Control Unit.
